All-In-One

mama hugging baby

Pressed for time? Our All-in-One class teaches you the basics of the birth process, infant feeding and basic baby care – all in a one-day class.

In a small class setting, parents are able to condense learning into one day, with time for questions and the hands-on learning they can’t get from reading a book. This class highlights the essentials of each topic, but is not as comprehensive as our traditional classes.

You’ll learn:

  • The birth process
  • Coping strategies for labor, including pain medication
  • Cesarean birth
  • Postpartum healing
  • Starting out at breastfeeding, and how to recognize signs of success
  • Introducing a bottle
  • Newborn care procedures in the hospital
  • Signs of illness, and when to call the doctor
  • Giving a bath
  • Hands-on care: diapering, swaddling and soothing, taking a temperature, and buckling the baby into the car seat

Our instructor will recommend good websites and books for more in-depth learning. Because of the nature of the class, hands-on breathing and relaxation will not be covered. Parents wanting to learn and practice breath work and relaxation techniques should consider the Labor Skills Workshop.

HypnoBirthing®

HypnoBirthing,® The Mongan Method is both a philosophy of birth and a relaxing, stress-free method of birthing. HypnoBirthing® teaches you and your birth companion how to experience birth in a comfortable manner using self-hypnosis, breathing, light touch and other strategies.

This course is led by Julie Zappa, Registered Nurse, Certified Hypnotherapist and HypnoBirthing® educator trained by Marie Mongan. Julie has been a beloved HypnoBirthing® educator in the Twin Cities for many years, and birthed her last child using HypnoBirthing® methods.

HypnoBirthing® teaches you to:

  • Trust your body and free yourself of negative emotions and fear
  • Use your own instincts
  • Be aware and fully in control, but deeply relaxed
  • Rely upon your birthing instincts

Birth companions are taught how to support women as they practice and implement the techniques throughout pregnancy and birthing.

We recommend taking the HypnoBirthing® course during your second trimester or early third trimester. This gives you and your birth partner time to practice and become familiar with the technique.

Tuition: $295 per couple. Your tuition includes an instructional book, two CDs and relaxation scripts.

Infant Sleep Programs

Sleep Like a Baby

Were you under the impression that your newborn was going to “sleep like a baby”? Wake up and smell the coffee! Getting a newborn to sleep longer than a few hours in a row is a lot harder than it sounds. Join us for a reality check on what to expect in the newborn weeks and how to promote healthy sleep habits from Day One. We’ll talk about strategies to prevent the need for intensive sleep training at a later age, and review our top picks for sleep books and products.

This class addresses infants four months and younger. We’d love to have you take it prenatally, but of course new parents are welcome as well. Bring your baby – we have plenty of places at Amma to soothe, feed and change a diaper.

Tuition: $25 per couple See dates and register

Please note: Amma Parenting Center does not accept insurance. If you have insurance through MinnesotaCare or Medical Assistance, please call us at (952) 926-2229. You may be eligible for our free prenatal class.

Private Consulting

We refer parents with in-depth sleep questions and issues to Mary Sheedy Kurcinka at parentchildhelp.com. Mary is a parent educator and the author of some of our favorite books, including “Raising Your Spiritied Child” and “Sleepless in America”. She is available for in-home or phone consultations, and we highly recommend her talents.
